Attendance Policies

  • Please adhere to our school policies (as per New York City Department of Education regulations in addition to the New York City Department of Health regulations) regarding student absences.  If your child is absent please call the school office (718-876-0939) to inform them of our child’s absence.  You may leave a message on the school voice mail as it is active 24 hours.  Notifying your child’s teacher or the bus does not take the place of calling the school.  If we do not hear from you the office will follow up by calling you directly.
  • Absence notes are required for all student absences and should include your child’s name, date(s) of absences and reason for absence (attached are several blank absence notes -if you ever need more copies that is not a problem, just let your teacher know and we will send more home)
  • Please keep your child home if they are unwell, any child who comes to school ill will be sent home and may return to school when symptoms have improved. Please cooperate in picking up your child if you are called and make sure your emergency contacts are up to date. As a reminder, we do not have a nurse on site, so if you receive a phone call to pick up your child, please know that this decision was not easily decided.  Perhaps this is a good time to confirm arrangements for pick up in the event of a call, especially if you know that you will not be able to come yourself. Please be assured that our mission is to meet the needs of both child and family and we do understand that changes in daily schedule affects us all.
  • Any student who is out for three or more days due to illness must provide a note from a physician upon return. If absences are not due to illness, please send an absence note stating reason for absence (family reasons, vacation, appointment, etc.. )

Your cooperation in this important matter is very much appreciated as the health and safety of your child and our entire school community is our priority.
