We Rise Above, Watch Us Soar

Tailored to the unique needs of adolescents and young adults with
disabilities, our goal is to prepare students for life after high school by
fostering independence, empowering self-advocacy, and enabling
successful transitions to adulthood.

Bishop Patrick V. Ahern High School, operated under the Seton Foundation
for Learning, is a private special education program serving students aged
14 to 21. Accredited by the Department of Education of the Archdiocese of
New York, BAHS is open to students of all faiths and religious backgrounds

Empowering Students with Disabilities to Thrive in Adulthood

Our school offers 10- and 12-month educational services for students
aged 5 to 14 with special needs. Each student is viewed as an
individual learner in our school setting. We provide customized
programming and one-on-one instruction with teachers, ensuring
that each student’s unique learning needs are met in a supportive
environment.

Our classes are small and highly structured, maintaining low student-to-teacher ratios to facilitate personalized attention. Our primary
objective is to equip students with meaningful, functional, and age appropriate skills essential for fostering independence through a
practical academic curriculum.

Empowering Self-Advocacy and Independence

The curriculum at Bishop Ahern High School focuses on age respectful, functional skill development while also providing academic enrichment. The goal is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to foster independence and prepare them for life after high school maximizing each students’ potential.

The comprehensive program at Bishop Ahern High School combines functional academics, social skills training, and a vocational, community based work-study program. This multifaceted approach helps to prepare students for a successful transition to adulthood. Work study opportunities are available for all students both on and off campus. The program is designed to mirror the real life job search allowing students to lead the process with the choice in their individual programming.

Increasing Independence, Maximizing Potential

The overarching goal at BAHS is to support our students with disabilities in their transition to adulthood maximizing each individual’s potential to increase independence. Through our comprehensive Work Study Program, we place a strong emphasis on vocational training and activities of daily living that are student choice driven. This approach ultimately promotes the level of independence that is most appropriate for each individual student. The school is fortunate to have established community partnerships with various local businesses Responsibilities at each job site are modified based on student needs to increase independence while teaching valuable, transferable work readiness skills.

At the core of our philosophy is the belief that students need to be provided with valuable real world working experiences. This allows them to gain practical skills and increase their competencies within a professional environment both on and off campus. To facilitate this, our students perform tasks and provide services both on campus in a variety of opportunities throughout the year and off campus for local businesses in the community.

Building Community Partnerships

This collaborative model creates a mutually beneficial situation. Not only do our students gain the necessary skills and experience to thrive as adults, but the local businesses also benefit from the services and support our students are able to provide. It is a true win-win scenario that strengthens the connection between our school and the surrounding community.

By prioritizing vocational training and community-based learning, we are equipping our students with disabilities with the tools and confidence they need to successfully transition into life after high school, maximizing their individual potential and increasing their independence.

Inclusive Socialization

The proximity of the host school, Moore Catholic High School, creates valuable opportunities for the students of Bishop Ahern to interact with their typically developing peers throughout the school day. These include a daily peer socialization program as well as integrated lunch periods in the main cafeteria, and special events both at BAHS and Moore.

Bishop Ahern High School is committed to providing a supportive environment in which students can develop their academic, social, and vocational skills, empowering them to become self-advocating adults, increase their independence, and achieve their maximum potential.
